Fenway Park thanks the Green Team.

The Franklin Pierce Green Team started their season by helping Fenway Park recycle plastic bottles and cups between every half inning during the Red Sox games on April 9 and April 13.
Over 30 members of the Franklin Pierce community entered Fenway Park approximately three hours before game time. The Franklin Pierce Green Team was also joined by the Boston College Green Team. Franklin Pierce's recycling team was led by Junior SIFE (Students In Free Enterprise) President Dan Shelley. Shelley made connections with Red Sox Public Relations member Katie Haas, who is responsible for organizing both Franklin Pierce and Boston College's Green Teams.
The Green Team received green T-shirts and navy blue caps which contained the words, "Poland Spring Green Team At Fenway Park" and a recycling logo surrounded by the Red Sox logo. They also received Green Team credential passes which gave them the right to go anywhere in the Fenway Park seating area.
Members were each assigned an area in which they would recycle during the games. Some members of the Green Team were placed on the Green Monster, while some were placed on the State Street Pavilion Boxes, Infield and Outfield Grand Stands, and Bleachers.
Members of the Green Team were not allowed to sit during the game but they could stand behind the seats and watch the action of the ball game. After every three outs, they then had to walk through the crowd with large size trash bags, and collect all plastic water and soda bottles, and beer cups. The Green Team members collected hundreds of bottles and cups and were thanked by the fans while recycling their plastics.
The money the Red Sox collects from recycling will go towards buying Solar Panels which will heat 37% of hot water at Fenway Park.
According to Senior Area Experience Director Scott Raskin, who traveled with the students to recycle, the fans were passing cups and bottles down the rows to the Green Team and were really motivated to recycle.
"I thought it was a great way to help the Red Sox go green," said junior SIFE member Corey Dunn. "We got to enjoy baseball and at the same time work towards helping the world go green."
Sophomore SIFE member Jeff Woods said, "It was good to get people more knowledgeable on going green."
Three hours before game time, the Green Team had the privilege of roaming the Fenway Park seating area. Although they were forbidden from talking to players, getting autographs, or collecting foul balls, they had the opportunity to watch the batting practice of both teams from any area in Fenway Park.
